How to Balance Life and School with Ease
It’s hard enough keeping up with bills, a social life, yard work and laundry. But when you add homework, reading, writing papers and studying for tests, your life becomes a jumbled mess. Keeping up with the basics of life becomes a trying task. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and feel like you need to quit school to keep up with the rest of your life.
But you don’t. You can balance life and school if you just use these tips:
- Use a planner. Since this will become your life organizer, make sure you get a nice one. Get one that has enough room for you to put your life in it. You need to be able to write notes for every day and have monthly calendars. It’s also helpful to have a pocket for bills and other loose items.
- If you’re single . . . plan a night out a week. This is a night just for you. If you want to go hang out with friends, go on a date, or just relax at home . . . this is a night for you to live your life and put schoolwork aside for a few hours.
- If you’re in a relationship . . . plan a date night. Since you’re always busy with schoolwork and life, it’s important that you don’t neglect your significant other. So plan a date night once a week to spend some quality time with your loved one and reconnect.
- If you’ve got a family . . . plan a family fun night. It’s important that your family feels that they’re still number one in your life. So plan a family fun night once a week to show them that they’re special. Order in pizza, play games, watch a movie . . . whatever you and your family like doing best!
- Plan a study night. Just like scheduling time to live your life and enjoy it, you need to also plan a night that you will devote just to studying, writing papers, reading . . . whatever you need to do for class. This will also help free you up for that night off!
- Don’t procrastinate. The key to staying on top of things is staying one step ahead. If you procrastinate, soon you’ll have dishes piled up in the kitchen, no food in the refrigerator and overdue bills. Not to mention late homework or papers. Plan ahead using your planner. If you have work or bills you can do early, get them done before they’re due.
- Preview your week. Every Sunday, sit down to preview the upcoming week. If you’re in a relationship, it might be helpful for your partner to join you. Take a look at bills that need to be paid, upcoming appointments, assignments, tests, etc. and make a game plan. Write this plan out in your planner and stick to it! You’ll find that it makes a world of difference.
Make sure that you keep your planner with you at all times. It can help you remember when to pay bills, that you need to start working on a paper early, and that you have a doctor’s appointment. It will also help you know what nights you have open for study groups or social activities.
Don’t sacrifice your education and a chance at improving your life just so you can keep up with life. Take control and start working toward your future now!
